Ritva Westenius has had an incredible career in fashion design. She has been at the forefront of bridal couture since 1977 when she opened her first boutique due to her innovative and artistic interpretation of design.
Born and educated in Finland, Sweden, Paris and then London. She attained a BA Hons degree followed by a diploma in Art and Design and finally a teachers certificate.
Then in the 50’s an opportunity arose for her to live in Paris and work behind the scenes of the famous Parisienne couture houses, where she experienced high fashion making in luxury couture- from this the flame was born!
To continue the dream she completed Post Graduate studies in ‘Business and Marketing’ and a course in ‘Advanced Pattern Cutting, Draping, Creative Tailoring and Corsetry’.
During all of this Ritva taught Art and Fashion Related subjects including Photography and Silk screen printing.
Since 1977 when she opened in Greys Inn Antiques in Mayfair, followed by the Fulham Road and now Connaught Street she has devoted herself completely to making this label grow with her personal passion for perfection.
In 2015, after having trained her daughter Chenca for over 16 years she felt able to take a step back and pass the reigns very gently over so that she can continue the legacy of this wonderful label.
With humility Ritva has managed to change the bridal world receiving numerous awards throughout her 39 year career. She is an incredible woman.
This is a talent that will never be stopped even in the background!
